commencement

Commencement ceremonies are a time for family and friends to celebrate the achievements of their student(s). We look forward to welcoming you to campus for this very special event.

Averett holds two commencements a year — Winter & Spring. Commencement exercises begin at 10:30 am and are held in Averett's E. Stuart James Grant Convocation and Athletic Center (707 Mt. Cross Rd.), North Campus. Each student has his or her name read, receives a ceremonial hood and personally receives a diploma from the University president.

Accommodations & Directions
Overnight accommodations fill up quickly. You are strongly encouraged to make your reservations early. If you need directions or information on restaurants and hotels Find it Here

Seating
Tickets are not required and seating is first come first served. Special seating is available for guests with special needs. We recommend that you and your graduate(s) decide ahead of time where you will meet following the ceremony. It may be difficult to spot your graduate(s) in the crowd.

Photographs
A professional photographer will take a photo of your graduate as he/she receives a diploma. Each graduate will be contacted by mail and given the opportunity to purchase a photo package to commemorate the event. Families and friends are welcome to take photos and video, but are asked not to walk in front of special guests or the stage area during the ceremony.

Invitations, Cap & Gown & Gifts
Invitations, cap and gown and special gifts for the graduate can be ordered through the Averett Bookstore 1-800-AVERETT, ext. 15641. A class ring representative will be in the lobby prior to commencement.
